Conceptualized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya is a non-partisan tribute to every Prime Minister of India since Independence.
The museum honors their unique leadership, vision, and contributions in rebuilding the nation, irrespective of their ideology or political tenure, aiming to inspire the younger generation to take pride in India's robust democratic journey.
The Historic Launch Ceremony
The grand inauguration of the museum took place on April 14, 2022. The event marked a new chapter in historical documentation and immersive public education.
As a symbolic gesture, Prime Minister Modi purchased the very first ticket at the counter before entering the building, emphasizing accessibility and transparency in public monuments before dedicating the Sangrahalaya to the nation.
Integration of Heritage and Modernity
Located within the iconic Teen Murti Bhawan complex, the museum spans a total built-up area of over 15,600 square meters.
It seamlessly integrates the renovated Block I (the former residence of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru) and Block II (the new structure representing a rising India). The building design is inspired by the narrative of a growing India, constructed with sustainable guidelines ensuring no trees were felled.
The Logo: Dharma Chakra
The logo of the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya represents the hands of the citizens of India holding the Dharma Chakra.
The logo symbolizes the nation's shared commitment to democratic principles, representation, and public power. The Dharma Chakra wheel represents continuous growth, righteousness, and the collective building of the world's largest democracy.
